Is the Hacienda open?

Yes, we are open and we have all our biosafety protocols established. As part of them, we only operate under prior reservation.

Are you pet friendly?

We love animals, but we are a conservation refuge located near the Cotopaxi National Park, a protected area that has its own visiting rules, so we cannot accept pets.

Is there a camping zone in the Hacienda?

No, but we have three different accommodation options within our facilities.

What should I wear during my stay?

For your visit to the andes, we suggest that you dress in warm layers as temperatures can change drastically throughout the day. When we find ourselves in the open air we must protect the body against cold, wind or humidity.

What are your check in and out times?

Check in: 15h00 pm

Check out: 12h00 pm (Noon)

What is your restaurant schedule?

Breakfast: 07:30 am to 09:30 am

Lunch: 13:00 pm to 15:00 pm

Dinner: 19:00 pm to 21:00 pm

If I'm driving to the hacienda, what kind of vehicle is appropriate?

You can reach Hacienda El Porvenir in any vehicle. We have 21 km of a secondary road that is mainly cobalt stone road, with the last km of gravel. We suggest to come with a high vehicle, but you don’t need 4 wheel drive.

Do I need to bring any special gear to perform the activities?

We provide all technical gear to perform the activities. Personal gear such as waterproof jackets and pants, sleeping bags, sunglasses, hat or cap, gloves are suggested that you bring along. Depending on which activity or tour you decide to experience, it will include a “what to bring” list, and the gear depends on the kind of adventures you will perform.

Do you cater dietary restrictions?

Yes, we cater dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, lactose-free and gluten-free. It’s important that you notify us about your dietary restrictions in advanced.

What is the time to check in and check out?

Check-in is at 15h00 and Check-out at 12h00 (Noon).

What is the restaurant's schedule ?

Breakfast is served from 07h30 to 09h30
Lunch is served from 13h00 to 15h00
Dinner is served from 19h00 to 21h00

Do you cater food restrictions?

Yes. We cater vegetarian, vegan, lactose free, gluten free and food allergies. Please notify in advance.

Will I experience altitude sickness?

The Hacienda is located at 3600 mts. (11,800 feet). We suggest that you drink plenty of liquids during your stay. If you experience a headache, digestive problems, dizziness, please let us know. These are normal symptoms of acclimatization and disappear within a few days of staying at the altitude. In our store we have oxygen tanks in case you need to buy them.

Where is the nearest medical facility?

In Machachi, the closest town located 21 km from the Hacienda. In Machachi you will find a public hospital that has the basic services of medical care, ambulance and paramedics. Severe emergencies must be treated in Quito.

Wonderful Hacienda with Incredible Views I had a wonderful 2 night stay at Hacienda El Porvenir, which is located only 4 km from Cotopaxi National Park. The setting is incredible, surrounded by the Sincholagua, Antisana, Ruminahui, and Cotopaxi volcanoes. Yes, it is rustic, but has its own beautiful charm. I reserved a traditional room (they have 3 different classes of rooms) and it was lovely. Others have complained about the cold temperatures, but there were 3 electric heaters available in my room, along with the evening hot water bottle placed in the bed, all of which were more than sufficient. Upon arrival I immediately went for a walk on one of their well-marked paths, and then took a cooking class making cheese empanadas, aji sauce, and canelazos. Both were fantastic. The next day I hired a local guide from the outside who took me into Cotopaxi National Park, where I enjoyed a great hike to the Refugio. Back at El Porvenir, I made use of their spa area. On my last day I took a fantastic 2 hour horse ride up towards the top of their property. It was an excellent ride thru the paramo grasslands, with beautiful views. Then afterwards went for a walk on another one of their walking trails, which was also great. Their restaurant has a wide selection, and the food is served in large portions. I especially enjoyed the lava steak and apple crumble that others have commented on. Regarding previous negative comments on the bulls that they raise, there is no need to worry. On my walks they were always in fenced in areas, and when we passed by them on the horse ride, they just sat there. Felipe is a great manager, he speaks excellent English, and was very helpful and always available. I highly recommend a stay at El Porvenir.

Horseback riding!! We had 1 day in Quito and wanted an adventure and Hacienda El Porvenir did not disappoint. We chose to do the 3.5 hr Horseback ride to the Ruminahui volcano. I can't say enough wonderful things about the service and attention to our family of 5. Empanadas before the trip and then lunch at the restaurant after which was excellent! It was the perfect way to see the highlands and learn a bit about the changras culture!

Super charming historic hotel in magnificent countryside This property is very cool: it is built with central courtyards for each of the 2 parts for guests: one for the rooms which all face onevery large courtyard and the other for the office, store, dining room, and handsome sitting rooms with a working fireplace to sit by with tea or wine. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows, the speical added touch of a hot water bottle placed IN our beds was divine after a delicious meal. We slept like babies under warm comforters and were greeted in the morning with a bright, sunny day. The man who helped deck us out in super warm panchos and thick AND warm chaps was great-he'dressed' us including helmets, and he kept an eye on us as we rode up towards Cotopaxi and especially when we saw the angry bulls. We saw vacuñas in the distance and also Condor. We also took a cooking class and learned how to make (AND eat!) a Guayusa/ CanelazoTea, Aji and yummy little empanadas. A fantastic trip we highly recommend!

Stopover after Galápagos visit We spent 1 night and 2 full days at the Hacienda. I normally don’t write reviews, but the service we received was so incredible I felt I should write a review. The room was lovely with a personal greeting at the ready and a fire roaring in the stove when we got there. Had a horseback ride scheduled, but as it was raining they graciously moved us to the next day and moved our checkout time to later so that we would have ample time to clean up before heading back to Quito. We took the afternoon to enjoy the spa and have a massage instead. Water in the hot tub could have been hotter, but it was still enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, and Gloria’s service was impeccable. Horseback riding in the Highlands was beautiful and the horses were very gentle. Philippe’s service was also impeccable. I highly recommend staying here!

Unespected gem Myself and my husband ended by chance in this hacienda and the welcome was more than worm, we felt at home and pampered in a beautiful way without forgetting safety measures. The dinner was simple (our arrival was unexpected) but still in a way sophisticated and delicious, the room was cozy with a little delightful touch: a hot water bottle to warm up the bed in a very cold night. The day after the arrival the manager arranged a great horseback riding in a wonderful landscape. The stop to take pictures was accompanied by a tea to warm up and reduce the problems of the altitude. At the end a welcome back with a delicious canelazo !! Our stay ended with a great lunch with natural products of the hacienda. Surely a place where to come back !!!

Escapada Familiar Es un lugar fantastico, excelente servicio y lindas intalaciones. Les recomiendo la Cabalgata, la disfrutamos mucho con mi esposo e hijas de 8 y 10. También las cuerdas medias que ofrecen son una excelente actividad para niñ@s. Tiene excelentes medidas de bioseguridad, nos sentimos muy seguros.

Charmingly rugged hacienda amidst breathtaking landscape This year is years too late as I visited El Porvenir in the mid-2010s (so ignore whatever travel date this review is tagged with) but in a way that on its own is telling. I discovered El Porvenir online and dreamed about traveling there for years before I actually went, and years after I've left it's stayed with me all this time. The hacienda has a cozy rustic vibe, the rooms were clean, the staff were friendly, the food was...well the food was just okay lol but when you combine all of that and then place it in that stunning volcanic landscape, it becomes something more than its parts. The place is honestly magical and well worth the long bumpy car ride.

Elevated near Cotopaxi If you're visiting Cotopaxi put this hideaway on your accommodation list for two nights, maybe more. You arrive here after a bumpy 15 km drive and are welcomed by hot apple cider and a lovely talk about the area and all the amenities. There are so many activities to do here that you'll want to visit Cotopaxi in the morning and return here for horseback riding or hiking or a ropes course or a full-service spa. The "middle of nowhere" location is one of its selling points. The sunsets are beautiful and the lounge, with its fireplace and serene atmosphere, is a perfect place to spend some quiet time before dinner. The menu takes into account many dietary preferences-- vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. The evenings are cold so that hot water bottle you'll find under the sheets is perfect. Enjoy!
