Yes. We are located on a safe zone, free of any lahar or pyroclastic flows. We are protected by Rumiñahui Volcano slopes and on an appropiate distance from Cotopaxi Volcano cone. The activities we offer at the moment are performed on safe areas as well within the hacienda territory.

Yes. The road that connects Machachi with the Hacienda is a safe road, that is not affected by volcanic activity. In case of an evacuation, we can reach Quito without any problems on the infrastructure (highways, bridges, etc)

Altitude sickness occurs when you cannot get enough oxygen from the air at high altitudes. This causes symptoms such as a headache, weakness or dizzines loss of appetite, digestion problems and trouble sleeping. It happens most often when people who are not used to high altitudes go quickly from lower altitudes to higher ones.Mild altitude sickness is common. Experts do not know who will get it and who will not. Neither your fitness level nor being male or female, adult or child plays a role in whether you get altitude sickness. To prevent altitude sickness is important to hydrate yourself consciously, to acclimatize properly and to inform your guide and our Administrator if you have any of the described symptoms. To treat altitude sickness, the most effective solution is to lower down in altitude.

Machachi located 21 km away from Hacienda El Porvenir, is the nearest town. Machachi has a public hospital with basic medical attention. Ambulance and paramedics are available at the hospital.  More serious emergencies have to be treated at a Hospital in Quito, which is 1H30 drive from the lodge. Our native guides are red cross certified and our bilingual guides hold Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR), to assist people in remote areas.

We are open year round. Depending on the tour or activity you would like to do we have some suggestions. Mountain climbing can be done year round, but the best months goes from October to March. Tours heading to Hacienda El Tambo can also be done year round, but the best months are from September to May. June, July and August are known locally as summer, and little rain is expected, beautiful clear skies are common and so are strong winds. For a more accurate weather forecast contact us.

You can reach the hacienda in any vehicle. We have 21 km of a secondary road that is mainly cobalt stone road, with the last km of gravel. We suggest to come with a high vehicle, but you don’t need 4 wheel drive.

We provide all technical gear to perform the activities. Personal gear such as waterproof jackets and pants, sleeping bags, sunglasses, hat or cap, gloves are suggested that you bring along.  Depending on which activity or tour you are taking part on it will include a what to bring list, and the gear depends on the kind of adventures you will perform.

Our all inclusive tours are the best money value packages we can offer in terms of what you get. They include transportation from and back to Quito and backup transport during tour days, certified English speaking guides, which are very knowledgeable on the area and professionals on their speciality. These explorations will take you to exclusive and remote areas for a true discovery of the area, all activities detailed in you itineraries, meals and accommodation according to the rooms you choose.

Our all inclusive set tours have an established itinerary, that may change due to weather or safety conditions. You will have a day by day description of your itinerary. The tailored tours, are designed according to your needs and to your interests. Slightly higher in rice, the tailored tours are very flexible and will be designed to meet your needs.

Yes, you may, but we can not assure that they will be available. We suggest that you choose your activities in advance specially in high season and in National holidays. Tours that require an English speaking guide need to be booked in advance. Look at our Independent adventures to see the options we offer. Independent adventures are led by Spanish speaking native guides.

Check in at 2:00 PM and Check out at 11:00 AM.

We do offer that option, in case you need to leave your room after the check out time (11:00 AM), and we have availability, we will charge 50% of the rate of the room and it applies until 4:00 PM.

Breakfast is served from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM
Lunch is served from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Dinner is served from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Yes. We cater vegetarian, vegan, lactose free, gluten free and food allergies. Please notify in advance.

No. We suggest that you leave your tips on the Tip box and it will be divided among the staff. If you feel like giving and extra tip to your guide, feel free to do it.
