Hacienda El Porvenir is the ideal place to connect with the paramo, the Chagra (Ecuadorian cowboy) culture and the hacienda traditional lifestyle. In addition, it is an adventure center like no other in Ecuador, where you´ll live exciting experiences in an impressive natural environment. We have exclusive trails within the hacienda for horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, and many more options that meet the safety standards necessary for its operation.
With our Passport to Adventure package, our guests can enjoy unlimited activities that they can repeat as many times as they want, the more days they share with us, the more options they have to do. Please note that the activities are not private.
Self-guided hike
We have exclusive trails within the hacienda, where you will enjoy a mixture of stunning landscapes. Ideal to connect with nature. Our trails offer you a variety of options: Andean forests, waterfalls, lookouts, conservation and reforestation areas where you can observe birds and wildlife.
High ropes course
This is a high adventure activity with low environmental impact, letting people with little or no knowledge of climbing techniques have a unique experience in a safe environment. You'll traverse ladders, nets, tightropes, swinging logs, wobbly bridges, and more fun surprises at 6 meters (20 ft.) above the ground. Our structures and obstacles are designed with safety standards in mind and we provide top-of-the-line climbing and rope gear Young adventurers (from 6 to 12 year old) can participate on the low-height kids course.
Horse ride to El Mirador
It's the best way to explore the páramo and connect with the local culture. With a duration of 2 hours, this incredible ride allows you to observe a large number of endemic plants and various birds that inhabit this territory. Free condor sightings are quite common. We will be riding in areas where wild horses graze and you can see the cattle from the upper part of the Hacienda. Upon arrival at the Mirador de los Guardianes we will stop to enjoy, if the weather allows to, a spectacular view of the Cotopaxi Volcano.
Cooking in the clouds
These fun all-inclusive cooking classes are taught in Spanish by native women who will inspire you and teach you their culinary secrets and local techniques. The class starts with cooking lessons of our famous cheese empanadas recipe, followed by the elaboration of ají or hot sauce. Ají is a very important part of Ecuadorian cuisine. This recipe varies from home to home. Here at Hacienda El Porvenir you will learn how to make it the traditional way, on a stone mortar and seasoned with various herbs and spices. We will also learn how to prepare the delicious canelazo, a traditional hot drink that is commonly served on celebrations in the Highlands of Ecuador.
Self-guided mountain bike
Mountain biking in the Cotopaxi area must be one of the best ways to experience the beauty and the geological wonders of this massive active volcano. We provide bike rentals for those adventurers who are willing to ride on the hacienda's biking trails through gravel and cobalt stone roads. Bike rentals are self-guided through our exclusive trails. We supply biking protections: helmets (mandatory use), gloves, knee and elbow protection for both self and fully supported ride. Bike ride is only allowed inside the property.
Hacienda life
A difference from Hacienda El Porvenir with other touristic farms is that ours is a productive agricultural and livestock farm, focused on sustainable development. Discover and participate in understanding the traditional life of a hacienda on a guided walk, where you will learn about the management and products that are produced in the area.
Reforestation
Have you ever wanted to contribute in creating a sustainable world? Here at Hacienda El Porvenir you can plant your own tree and support our program of reforestation of native species, in order to restore the Andean habitat.
APU Mountain SPA
Inspired by Andean Mountain culture and it’s volcanic setting, APU Spa offers a variety of exquisite treatments to relax, relief and energize the muscles and the senses after a day full of adventure. The Spa offers two single massage rooms and one wet area with a jacuzzi, and two therapeutic hot tubs.To maintain social distancing, the SPA will only operate by previous reservation and set schedules that will allow us to achieve our biosecurity standards by cleaning between use and use. Families with children under 12 years old can use the SPA only until 19:00 p.m.
Visit to Cotopaxi
We start by heading from Hacienda El Porvenir to Cotopaxi National Park in the morning. We will cross the páramo plains where we will eventually reach the parking area prior to the climbing hut. From here, we begin to hike up to the hut (or “refugio” in Spanish) at 4,800m (15,744 ft), and reach the colossal Cotopaxi volcano to look at him, face-to-face! After descending from the Refugio, we will continue on to Limpiopungo Lake where we will be served with a nutritious and tasty packed lunch. After this, we will visit the ancient Inca fortress of Pucará del Salitre and then we will return to the Hacienda. A native Spanish speaking guide will accompany us during the day.
Visita to Santa Rita
This ecological reserve is a private conservation effort committed to the protection and conservation of approximately 300 hectares of Andean forest, páramo, rivers, waterfalls and all the wildlife found in it. A unique place for walking, cycling and bird watching. This Reserve is located 20 km from El Porvenir.
Hacienda El Tambo
On the Slopes of Quilindaña Volcano and inside the Cotopaxi National Park, Hacienda El Tambo is immersed in a pristine and remote area of the Condor Bioreserve, a major conservation program that serves as a corridor of Andean endangered species. At El Tambo there are only Machai Rooms available. Rather than formal rooms, these remember the huts built by highland Indians with their thatched roofs and matting made estera walls and curtains as doors. They are very warm and cozy rooms. There are 6 machais that can accommodate two people each, and there's one Master machai, which can accommodate six guests. The Machais share 3 bathrooms and 3 showers (hot water).
We provide the necessary equipment to participate in our activities. Some activities are led by our native Spanish guides, while others are self-guided (such as bike rental and short walks). At the hacienda, there are no English speaking guides. All our adventures are subject to set schedules, weather and availability:
